:(

Feeling disappointed this morning. I didn't make the next round of Gallery Idol. I would love any feedback to understand why. Don't get me wrong, I am happy (very!) for the 15 who went on to the next round. It's childish... but I feel like having a little cry. No worries.... tomorrow is another day. Thanks to all who took the time to head over and vote for my card.

There are 3 steps that you can take to respond to disappointments in a simple, yet healthy way.

1. Recognize what happened and why it is that you feel the way that you feel about it. We experience disappointment because we come to the realization that we did not get what we thought we were going to get when we thought we were going to get it. This feeling normally leads to frustration, anger and resentment. Usually if you can take a few minutes to think about your situation and get clear on why it is that you feel the way the way that you do then that will lead you to the next step.

2. Get perspective. Once you take a step back you can look at the situation from a broader perspective. You are able to gather yourself and calm your emotions. From that vantage point you will have the ability to see exactly what it is that occurred. This in turn leads you to the realization that your present situation isn't as bad as you thought it was.

3. Get back on track. After honestly looking at your situation you can began taking steps to overcome this setback. Either altering your plan some or come up with a new one which takes your setback into account. Overcome your setbacks by learning from failure and continuing to move forward with your plans.

  1. So sorry, girl. Try not to let this get to you. This does not mean you're not an amazing card designer. Nor does it mean you're not an amazing lady. It simply means it isn't happening this time around. There's always next year. Keep that talented chin of yours up!

  2. Alicia, I wish we all could go through. This is all pure luck. Your card is gorgeous. We don't know who the voters gonna choose. Hugs. You're an amazingly talented lady!

  3. Well, I for one think your cards are ALWAYS amazing. When I saw your card, I actually said "ooooo"! :) I've given up on understanding why people like what they like. Playing that guessing game will drive a person mad! Just do what ya love and have fun doing it...and celebrate the small things like being in the Top 20...cause I'm sure there are lots of designers who would love to say they were.

  6. ((((((hugs))))) I know I'll be feeling the same way in a week or two!! You are a real, talented somebody...you're all over paper crafts, you blow me away! Think of this too, Adam Lambert is WAY more talented than that Chris kid who won! *wink*

  7. Blame me - I probably jinxed you! *LOL* Eh, it happens. Allow yourself to acknowledge the disappointment - you're perfectly allowed to own your emotions - and then move on.

While I loved your card (and voted for it!) I wonder if maybe the trimmed top wedge may have felt a little uneven? The balance would be a bit different if the trimmed part were just a different color (like orange?) but the same shape as the green. Just a thought, don't mind me.

  8. I too love your stuff and subscribe to your blog posts.
For me, it was partly the color scheme...remember you did a post deciding your color scheme choice? I actually preferred the one you didn't choose. Secondly, it felt a little off balance to me.
I am certainly no expert, and have never submitted a thing (probably never will), so it's just my opinion. For me, it's either an instant "oh, i really like that", or not. LEt's be honest...beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don't let it deter you one bit. I'm sure people get far more no's, than yes's.....your work is stunning to me and if it weren't, I wouldn't sub to your blog feed!! Go girl!!
